Content & Development	Excellent - Content is comprehensive, accurate, and persuasive. - Major points are stated clearly and are well supported. - Content and purpose of the writing are clear. - Theme being discussed is clear to reader.	Acceptable - Content is not comprehensive and /or persuasive. - Major points are addressed, but not well supported. - Content is inconsistent with regard to purpose and clarity of thought. - Theme being discussed is vague, but present.	Poor - Content is incomplete. - Major points are not clear and /or persuasive. - Theme is not mentioned at all or mentioned in the beginning but not throughout the remainder of essay.
Organization & Structure	Excellent - Structure of the paper is clear and easy to follow. - All listed and required components are included.	Acceptable - Structure of the paper is not easy to follow. - Some of the components are included.	Poor - Organization and structure detract from the message of the writer.
Format	Excellent - Paper follows designated guidelines.	Acceptable - Paper follows most guidelines. - Paper is under page length.	Poor - Paper lacks many elements of correct formattting. - Paper is inadequate/excessive in length.
Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling	Excellent - Rules of grammar, usage, and punctuation are followed; spelling is correct. - Language is clear and precise; sentences display consistently strong, varied structure.	Acceptable - Paper contains few grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.	Poor - Paper contains numerous grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
