Writing Assignment Rubric

Each student will use the 4.5 pairs positions words and the basic sentence patterns to write a short paragraph, describing the location of their home. The paragraph should be at least 5 sentences long.

	Exceeding 25 pts	Meeting 20 pts	Approaching 15 pts	Beginning 10 pts
Content	Exceeding - Content is accurate, and a vivid description of the location of the student' home.	Meeting - Content is accurate and give readers basic idea of the location of the student's home.	Approaching - Content is partially accurate and gives readers a little clue about the location of the student's home but still need more description.	Beginning - Content is incomplete and readers feel confused about what the student is trying to say.
Grammar & Spelling	Exceeding - Rules of grammar, usage, and punctuation are followed; spelling is correct.	Meeting - Rules of grammar, usage, and punctuation are followed with minor errors that do not detract from the readability of the work.	Approaching - Paper contains few grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.	Beginning - Paper contains numerous grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
Amount of Sentences	Exceeding Use more than 8 sentences.	Meeting Use 5-7 sentences.	Approaching Use 4-5 sentences	Beginning Use less than 3 sentences.
