Content 50 pts	Poor - Content is incomplete. - Major points are not clear, thorough, or accurate.	Fair - Content is accurate, but not clear or thorough. - Major points are addressed, but not well supported. - Research is inadequate and does not address topic. - Content is inconsistent with regard to purpose and clarity.	Good - Content is accurate and thorough. - Major points are stated clearly and are well supported. - Research is adequate and addresses topic. - Content and purpose of the writing are clear.
Organization & Structure 10 pts	Poor - Organization and structure detract from the message of the writer. - Writing is disjointed and lacks transition of thoughts.	Fair - Structure of the writing is not easy to follow. - Paragraph transitions need improvement.	Good - Structure of the writing is clear and easy to follow.
Causes/Effects 30 pts	Poor - Paper lacks descriptions of causes and effects of the event.	Fair - Paper has inadequate information about causes and effects of the event.	Good - Paper effectively describes the causes and effects of the bombardment of Ft. Sumter.
Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling 10 pts	Poor - Paper contains numerous grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors. - Language uses jargon or conversational tone.	Fair - Paper contains few grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors. - Language lacks clarity or includes the use of some jargon or conversational tone.	Good - Rules of grammar, usage, and punctuation are followed; spelling is correct. - Language is clear and precise; sentences display consistently strong, varied structure.
