Hurricane News Project

Student groups will research and discover information about a hurricane/typhoon. Groups will present their information in a Weather "News Special" format, simulated live or by video (e.g., iMovie).

CONTENT 20 pts Includes facts, details, and history about assigned hurricane; role is accurate, complete, advances understanding of hurricanes, preparation, and safety	Exemplary More than the required information is presented. Facts are accurate; each role is complete and very informative	Proficient The required information is presented.	Developing No more than 70% of the required information is presented in the project.	Beginning No more than 60% of the required information is presented in the project.
VISUAL AIDS 7 pts Must include pictures. May use graphs, charts, brochures, and/or video.	Exemplary Visual aids have element of creativity and style. Info is presented in clear manner with full understanding of subject.	Proficient Visual aids are clear and logical, contain facts with very few mistakes. Info is clear with fair understanding of the subject.	Developing Visual aids show some understanding of subject matter, but contain errors. Lack meaning to intended presentation.	Beginning The visual aids do not reveal a clear understanding of the subject matter or new or no props and visual aids.
VISUAL APPEAL/NEATNESS 3 pts Completed project includes neat, legible, orderly information, showing time and care by team.	Exemplary The work done exceeds all expectations. The effort put into this task is the best it can be by the learner.	Proficient Work is done with good effort that shows the capability of the learner. It is evident that time was put into this project.	Developing Work shows fair effort, but quality is not what the learner is capable of. Evident that work was rushed or not given appropriate attention.	Beginning Work is done with little effort, shows lack of quality, and may be incomplete. It is evident little time was spent on the final product.
TEAMWORK 10 pts Team worked together to create a successful project; each member contributes to the best of her/his ability.	Exemplary The group worked very well with each other and the presentation was shared equally among the group members.	Proficient The group worked well with each other and communicated well. Some members participated slightly more than others.	Developing Group communicated relatively well; few lapses in presentation; some students dominated; others did not participate much.	Beginning Group did not work well together. There were obvious miscommunications and lapses in the presentation.
PRESENTATION 10 pts Students demonstrated complete subject knowledge and all team members took ownership of the end product.	Exemplary Well-prepared, present information clearly, and displays a complete understanding of the information.	Proficient Information presented clearly and student displays a reasonable understanding of her/his information.	Developing Presentation was not clearly organized. Transitions between members were jumpy or awkward. <BR> Several elements of the role are omitted.	Beginning Not enough preparation. Poor transitions between group members individual parts. It lacks the expected organization and flow.
