Complex Number Project
The students must create their own complex number system where they will perform mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Standards: N.CN.1: know there is a complex number i such that i^2=-1, and every complex number has the form of a+bi with a and b real. N.CN.2: Use the relation i^2=-1 and the commutative, associative, and distributive properties to add, subtract, and multiply complex numbers. t

Procedure
25 %

Did you clearly explain (show) your steps

Exceeds

The student presents the information clearly and displays a complete understanding of the operations with complex numbers.
Good

The student presents the information fairly clearly and displays a reasonable understanding of the operations with complex numbers.
Fair

The information presented is not cleary displayed throughout the project
Poor

Not enough preparation was done for the presentation of the information, it therefore lacks many elements of what is expected.
Quality of Mathematics
50 %

Did you properly show the steps necessary. Is your final solution correct. Did you check it. Does your example illustrate your topic.

Exceeds

The work done exceeds all expectations and shows that the learner is proud of his/her work. The effort that was put into this task is the best it can be by the learner.
Good

The work was done with good effort that shows what the learner is capable of. It is evident that time was put into this poster and presentation.
Fair

Work is done with fair effort, but the quality is still not what the learner is capable of. It is evident that the work was rushed.
Poor

Work is done with little effort, quality is not what the learner is capable of. It is evident that the work was rushed and little time was spent on the final product. Work is incomplete.
Creativity
25 %

Did you decorate your poster in a way that is attractive and appealing to the eye?

Exceeds

The project has an element of creativity and style. The project is presented in a clear and concise manner with full understanding of how operations are applied with complex numbers.
Good

The project is clear and logical and contains information as well as very few mistakes. Good clear presentation.
Fair

The project lacks style and reads more like a list of equations. The poster lacks neatness and clarity
Poor

The projects lacks a clear understanding of the subject matter and their are many errors. Poster is not creative.
