Poem - Rubric for original poetry

Students are to write an original poem based on the form and/or theme of a famous poem. Students will write either a sonnet or an ode, and must abide by the requirements of the chosen form.

Proficient Student uses the appropriate poetic form effectively.	Exemplary Student uses the appropriate poetic form creatively.
Word Choice Student's work shows evidence of careful, deliberate word choice.	Unsatisfactory Student’s use of vocabulary is basic, and does NOT demonstrate a grade-level-appropriate knowledge of vocabulary. Serious vocabulary errors may be present	Emerging Student’s use of vocabulary is more "telling than showing." Vocabulary is functional, but simple, and may contain minor errors.	Proficient Student’s use of vocabulary is routine and workable. No vocabulary errors present, but student's word choice does not feel entirely intentional.	Exemplary Student’s use of vocabulary is precise and vivid, and paints a strong clear and complete picture in the reader’s mind. Student's word choice feels completely intentional.
