Compare/Contrast Writing

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the 3rd grade student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting paragraph Students need to utilize the key words to signal compare and contrast.

Capable Student has a topic sentence but does not flow in a way to introduce topic and subjects.	Developing Student has an introduction using "they" rather than mentioning the two things being compared the subjects.	Novice Student does not have a topic sentence.
Capitalization/Punctuation	Skilled All sentences begin with a capital letter.All sentences have the correct end marks.	Capable Most sentences begin with a capital letter.
