Artifact and Description 
Students are to create an artifact that will depict their understanding of the impact Africans/African Americans made on New York's growth and development. The project is to include a visual and written component. Students are encouraged to use creativity when completing the artifact. A brief written description should accompany the artifact and an explanation of the relevance of this item to our topic.

Student is somewhat uncomfortable with content and is able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the essential question but cannot or did not elaborate on the relevance to the essential question.
Good

Student is at ease with content, but fails to elaborate. Description includes many facts, student does not display how their project is relevant to the essential question.
Excellent

Student description demonstrates full knowledge (more than required) and fully explains the relevance of their project to the essential question.
Content

Poor

The project content is poor and suggests the student has not done sufficient research of his/her topic.
Fair

The project content is fair and suggests the student has not discovered most of the important facts.
Good

The project content is good and suggests the student discovered most of the important facts about his/her topic.
Excellent

The project content is exemplary and accurate in its portrayal and is very detailed.
