Rubric for alternatives to book reports or traditional book reports

Students will present and examine lyrics/lines using poetic terms studied in class.

Students choose lyrics: analyze; create Google Docs Presentation expressing lyrics message; give oral presentation discussing poetic elements/reason for choice, and include comments on:speaker: the writer/singer or a character created by the author theme: meaning or main idea about some insight into human existence tone: the attitude toward the subject, character or audience devices: diction, metaphors, similes, sensory details, rhythm, rhyme and repetition.

The student will select a country and develop a detailed presentation based on their creation. The student will to be able to present facts about their chosen country’s resources, culture, government, religion, geography, political atmosphere, social events, recreational pastimes, history, economics, etc.

Students will write a fictional narrative. The topic or theme of the story comes from The Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg. The teacher will grade the work based on the proper development of elements: theme, character, conflict, plot, and setting.
