Fictional Narrative
Students will write a fictional narrative. The topic or theme of the story comes from The Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg. The teacher will grade the work based on the proper development of elements: theme, character, conflict, plot, and setting.

You know exactly when and where everything in the story is taking place.

The setting is barely clear. Only one or two scene setting is vividly described.

Conflict, Plot Events, Resolution
Level 4
The conflict is clear in the story and there is a resolution of some kind at the end. The plot is thoughtful and shows evidence of planning. Everything in the story makes sense within the context of the story.

The characters are described with vivid detail. If there was a person in your image, they are incorporated in the story in some way. The characters use dialogue to communicate.

The characters are described with some detail. Dialogue is used sparingly, detracting from the story.

There is very little detail about the characters. There is little dialogue,

The characters are not clearly described. Dialogue is not used.
