Research a professional within the dance community and create a presentation on their career and contributions within their field.

A research project including a written and visual component on a style of dance and the culture behind it. Include information about the country in which the dance originates.

Students complete a research paper that exhibits in-depth and thorough research skills using primary and secondary sources. Include a visual demonstration of the dance cultural genre selected.

Students will work in groups to develop a well choreographed dance. Students will choose their style of dance. The Dance must portray the style accurately, using at least 3 or more choreographic Principles, as well as the Elements of Dance. The team will design and perform choreography. Dance length minimum is 1 1/2 to 2 minutes.

Technique, Performance, Choreography

Students will create a 16 count combination. Using the Nine Principles of Choreography, manipulate the 16 counts into a 3 minute dance to the music of your choice.

Research and Present information on a Jazz Dance Profession/Professional, that includes visual aide and video reference.

Rubric to assess daily class participation, effort and completion of activities and assignments.

Students will work in groups to develop a well choreographed dance phrase. Students will develop a dance that must portray at least 10 or more choreographic elements. The team will design and perform choreography. Dance must have a minimum of 16 steps

Art students will refine shading and/or drawing skills and an understanding of what is expected in a developed successful composition rubric. Students will demonstrate their knowledge, skill and ability level throught the creation of the Composition. Through the repetition of a single shape students are asked to use their skills to develop a successful composition that contains depth.

Students will research a Tap dance pioneer/choreographer that has made substantial contributions to dance as an art form. Students will research and develop an understanding of the individual’s historical significance, to create a presentation utilizing one visual aid (PowerPoint, poster, recreate choreography, etc.) to support the research.

Instructor assess group efforts in producing group choreography as an assignment in which all members contributed to producing choreography for the task at hand. Assignment was to find a piece of art or a photographed which moved you. choreography should have a clear form, transititions that are seamless and movements that represent your piece of art or theme. Students should you as many choreographic devices to enhance their piece of choreography

Performance Task: The diagnostic assessment is focused on the combining the understanding and use of art elements and principles in a single composition. In 6th Grade Art students will refine shading and drawing skills and an understanding of what is expected in a developed successful composition which will result in a rating of 1 to 4 on the art department developed rubric. Students will demonstrate their knowledge, skill and ability level throught the creation of the Depth Composition. Through the repetition of a single shape students are asked to use their skills to develop a successful composition that contains depth.
