Excellent
Student is present at every class meeting, or provides a reasonable excuse for missing no more than 1 class. Emails ahead of time to notify of absence, as well as submit their assignment.
Good
Student is absent 1-2 classes and provides reasonable excuses. Emails ahead of time to notify of their absence, as well as submit their assignment.
Fair
Student is absent for 1- 2 classes and does not provide reasonable excuses. Emails ahead of time to notify absence, does not submit their assignment.
Poor
Student is absent for 3 or more classes. Does not email to notify of absence.
LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT AND BEHAVIOR
Excellent
Student brings original thought and perspective to discussion. Maintains active involvement throughout semester. Engages with fellow peers, asks questions.
Good
Student sometimes asks questions, and participates in discussions. Engages with fellow peers but not consistently.
Fair
Student rarely participates in class, struggles with discussions. Comments are often uninformed and rely on personal taste.
Poor
Student never participates in class, does not participate in discussions. Comments, when offered, are often uninformed and rely on personal taste.

Excellent
Student is always prepared for class with assignments and has clearly read the assigned materials.
Good
Student is usually prepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late.
Fair
Student is frequently unprepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late.
Poor
Student is almost always unprepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late.
