Beginning of story	Emerging Student attempts to identify how the story began, but is incorrect with pictures and words.	Developing Student can give 1 detail from the beginning of the story, but does not state the key point, or what the problem is.	Applying Student identifies key elements of the beginning of the story, including the problem or situation. The picture helps tell the beginning of the story well.
Middle of story	Emerging Student attempts to identify events from the middle of story, but is unable to correctly do so. No picture or words used.	Developing Student can give 1 event from the middle of story, but leaves out the key point(s), or what the character(s) is doing to solve the problem.	Applying Student identifies key elements from the middle of the story, which tell what the character(s) is doing to solve the problem. The picture helps tell events that happened in the middle of the story.
End of story	Emerging Student attempts to identify events from the end of story, but is unable to do so.	Developing Student can give 1 event from the end of story, but leaves out key points.	Applying Student identifies key elements from the end of the story. The picture helps tell the ending.
Character(s)	Emerging Student stuggles using adjectives to describe the character or events in the story. (There is no labeling done)	Developing Student can use one adjective to describe the character and events in the story.	Applying Student can use 2 or more words that describe the events and actions of the characters in the story. (There is some labeling done)
