Country Map
Students will create a map of a country. The map will include a title, a key, and a compass rose. The country, capital, major cities, land forms and bodies of water will be labeled on the map or in the key.

Map Title and border.
4 = Accomplished
Map title is labeled on the front of the map and relates to the map. A border is easily visible and frames the map beautifully.

Title connects to map accurately. Border is included. Border frames map with considerable purpose.
2 = Developing
Title doesn't connect to map. Border is included. Border satisfactorily frames map.
1 = Beginning
There is no map title or border.
Map Key
4 = Accomplished
The map key is clearly understood. All symbols found on the key are easily found on the map.
3 = Proficient
The map key is considerably understood. Not All symbols found on the key are easily found on the map.
2 = Developing
The map key is present but there are few symbols in the key that are not found on the map. The map key is not able to be understood clearly.
1 = Beginning
There is no map key or map key doesn't relate to the map.
Compass Rose

Compass Rose is clearly visible and artistically present and all information is correct
3 = Proficient
Compass Rose is present and all information is correct
2 = Developing
Compass rose is present but not labeled correctly. The corrrect information is not given.

Neatness and Creativity
4 = Accomplished
The map is beautifully colored or painted and has no scratchouts. The map is original and the student shows a great sense of pride in their efforts
3 = Proficient
The map is colored and has no scratchouts. The map is original and the student shows a considerable sense of pride in their efforts
2 = Developing
The map has a few visible scratchouts. The map is not colored neatly. The student shows some sense of pride in their effort.
1 = Beginning
The map is not colored and has visible scratchouts. It is sloppy. The student shows a lack of effort.
Capital and Major Cities
4 = Accomplished
The map clearly labels the capital of the country and 3-5 major cities.
3 = Proficient
The map clearly labels the capital of the country and 1-2 major cities.
2 = Developing
The map clearly labels the capital of the country but no major cities.
1 = Beginning
The capital and/or major cities are not clearly labeled.
Major Landforms and Rivers
4 = Accomplished
Land forms, Rivers and Bodies of Water are clearly labeled on the Map. The key should reflect the type of land form, river, water, etc.
Example: Triangle - Mountains, Star - Capital, Squiggly Line - River.
3 = Proficient
Major land forms, rivers, and bodies of water are clearly labeled on the map but are not reflected in the KEY.
2 = Developing
Major land form and/or rivers are drawn but not labeled. Large bodies of water are not labeled on the map.
1 = Beginning
There are no land forms, bodies of water, and/or rivers on the map.
