Community-based Spot Map Making Activity Making Maps A 30-minute activity in which students are asked to make a community-based spot map focusing on the hazards and other relevant pre disaster, during disaster and post disaster measures. Map-Making

Legend/Key	Poor No list of symbols, codes, colors, or scale used on the map. No clear boxed out legend.	Fair A legend is used, however, it is difficult to understand. Some elements of the legend are missing. No clear boxed out legend.	Good Legend is well put together with most of the necessary elements needed to clearly read the map. Boxed out legend.	Excellent An explanatory list of any symbols, codes, colors, or scale used on the map. Will include the title of the map, a key to all the symbols, and the key to the scale. Boxed out legend.
Coordinates/ Direction Orientation	Poor No coordinate system used on the map. No scale.	Fair An attempt is made to make a coordinate system, however, the system is hard to understand. Inaccurate use of the scale.	Good Clear and understandable coordinate system with proper labeling. An accurate scale is used.	Excellent Well planned and thought out coordinate system that uses a set of numbered or lettered horizontal and vertical lines that allow the viewer to describe a single given point(within reason) on the map.
