Prediction	Satisfactory Student shows little to no ability to predict what story will be about.	Good Student provides some ideas about what may occur in the story.	Very Good Student gives several ideas about what may occur in the story.	Excellent Student gives several ideas about what may occur in the story and gives rich detail, supported by information they have already gathered from the book (pictures, title, etc.)
Fluency/Pacing	Satisfactory Reads slowly and laboriously. Struggles with decoding words. Ignores punctuation.	Good Reads moderately slowly; word by word. Extended pauses or hesitation. Ignores some punctuation.	Very Good Reads fast and slow throughout reading. Some choppiness. Appropriate pausing for MOST punctuation	Excellent Reads at a conversational pace throughout the reading. Effortless and automatic. Appropriate pausing for ALL punctuation.
Accuracy To calculate reading accuracy, take the number of words read and subtract the number of errors. Take that total and divide it by the number of words read to find the percentage.	Satisfactory Student reads the passage with many mistakes. Below 90%	Good Student is able to read the passage with a few mistakes. 90% - 94% accuracy	Very Good Student is able to read the passage with very few mistakes. 95% - 100% accuracy	Excellent Student is able to read the passage without mistakes. 100% accuracy
Retell	Satisfactory Student does not recall any details from the selection.	Good Student recalls some detail from the selection in random order.	Very Good Student is able to retell 3 or more important details from the selection out sequence.	Excellent Student is able to retell 3 or more important details from the selection in correct sequence.
Oral Comprehension Questions	Satisfactory Student does not answer questions correctly, and struggles to recall detail.	Good Student is able to recall details from the story, but does not correctly answer the questions.	Very Good Student is able to answer the questions correctly, but is vague about recalling details.	Excellent Student is able to answer questions completely and correctly with detail.
Strategies Strategies for decoding, deciphering, and comprehending	Satisfactory Student does not accurately use reading strategies.	Good Students sometimes uses reading strategies with frequent prompting.	Very Good Student uses reading strategies accurately, needs occasional prompting.	Excellent Students uses reading strategies accurately and independently.
