Oral communication takes many forms. This rubric is specifically designed to evaluate oral presentations of a single speaker at a time. An oral answer to a single question not designed to be structured into a presentation does not readily apply to this rubric.

-Seldom eye contact with the audience
-Not enough or too much gesture and expression
-Deliverance with no confidence. Head is down most of presentation.
- Elocution is not clear, correct and precise. Voice is too low to hear.

-Student clearly states their thesis statement and effectively expands upon it.
- Demonstrates full knowledge by answering all questions with explanations and elaborations.
-Historical and current examples are coherently explained
Proficient

-Student states their thesis statement and generally expands upon it.
- Demonstrates some knowledge by answering most questions with explanations and some elaborations.
-Historical and current examples are somewhat coherently explained
Satisfactory

-Student does not state their thesis statement very well.
-Student's misconceptions about subject knowledge is obvious by not being able to answer questions well.
-Historical and current examples are explained to show some understanding.
Unacceptable

-Students do not state any thesis statement.
-Students still sound confused on their topic and can not answer questions.
-Historical and current examples are vaguely explained or not explained at all.
Prepardness

-The student was prepared to present.
-Stayed within 2-3 min. timeframe.
-Uses notecards/ presentation for reference only.

-The student was prepared but unorganized.
-Goes a bit longer that 3 minutes.
-Uses notecards or the presentation mostly for reference but does read some from them.

-The student was not ready to present.
- Uses only 1-2 minutes
-Uses notecards or the presentation but does read from them quite often.
Unacceptable

-The student was not present or did not present.
- uses only 1 minute to present information.
-Reads almost entirely off notecards or presentation board.

-Visual aid is pleasing and contributes to the overall message.
-Visual aid is very effectively explained as part of the contrast or comparison or both.
Proficient

-Visual aid is nice and somewhat contributes to the overall message.
-Visual aid is effectively explained as part of the contrast or comparison.
Satisfactory

-Visual aid is present but does not contribute to the overall message.
-Visual aid is vaguely explained as part of the contrast or comparison.
Unacceptable

-Visual aid may or may not be present.
-Visual aid has nothing to do with message.
-Visual aid is not explained or explained very little in context of the message
