Friendly Letter to a Character Friendly Letter to a Character Students will each write a friendly letter to a character from a book and offer assistance in resolving the character's conflict or conflicts. Focus	Exceptional Writing is clear and coherent; appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.	Good Writing is mostly clear and coherent; appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.	Fair Writing is somewhat clear and may be confusing at times; task, purpose, and audience may not be clear.	Needs Work Writing is unclear and confusing; is not appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
Content	Exceptional The letter is thorough and detailed.	Good The letter is specific but details may not be thorough.	Fair The letter includes basic details without much description or explanation.	Needs Work The letter includes minimal details and limited description or explanation.
Conventions	Exceptional Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are flawless. No errors.	Good Letter contains a few careless errors.	Fair Letter contains several errors that may hinder comprehension.	Needs Work Letter contains numerous errors that hinder comprehension.
