Torch 180 Week #1 Student Initial Evaluation 
This rubric will evaluate the participation of a student based on participation, preparedness, behavior, attitude, respect, and homework in the English class.

Student sometimes completes work and/or has materials. Student has completed some assignments and is sometimes ready for class. Student brings fold and hat to class occasionally - but not consistently.
Poor

Student did not complete required work and/or assignments. Student contributed little or nothing at all to the overall activity. Student never brings folder and hat to class.

Student is positive about the activities being done in class. Student usually tries to understand and is typically engaged in lessons.

Student is neutral about the activities and ServSafe. Student only responds when prompted or asked a direct question. Student often seems elsewhere mentally and has a hard time focusing.
Poor

Student has a negative attitude towards ServeSafe and never tries to understand or to participate in class.

Student seems to be grasping ServSafe after minimal review and is able to put the majority of what he/she has learned into practice.

Student underservSafe materials being taught and can out those same concepts into practice.
Poor

Student is really struggling with ServSafe and needs constant prompting and additional one on one attention. Student may or may not be able to put ServSafe ideas into practice or understand why ServSafe is important.

Knife Skills

Excellent

Student understood the proper way to hold a knife and executed good knife skills while working in the kitchen on playdough. Student used a proper "claw" and understood why this was important.
Above Average

Student did a reasonable job of understanding the proper way to hold a knife and executed fair knife skills while working in the kitchen on playdough. Student used a proper "claw" some of the time understood why this was important.
Average

Student did not fully understood the proper way to hold a knife, but with a lot of prompting and assistance was able to execute good knife skills while working with playdough. Student also struggled with a proper "claw" and did not fully understand why this was important.
Poor

Student physically cannot hold a knife correctly in spite of giving great effort and having a good attitude. Students physical abilities may limit knife work, but student did grasp his/her disability may make it harder for him/her to work safely with knives.
