Story line--Content grade	Emerging The book has no real story.	Progressing Evidence of a story line.	Proficient Story line is clear and story is interesting.	Advanced Story line is creative and interesting.
Accuracy of language--Content grade	Emerging Mistakes in structure of sentences inhibit understanding.	Progressing Many mistakes are present and they begin to distract from the story.	Proficient Some mistakes occur but do not distract from the understanding of the story.	Advanced Near flawless use of grammar and mechanics.
Word Choice--Content grade	Emerging Author did not make good word choices. Many anglicisms occur.	Progressing Author used some words accurately. May have used some angicisms.	Proficient Author used basic words with some variety.	Advanced A variety of well-chosen words add to the enjoyment of the story.
Illustrations-- Work habits	Emerging There are pictures missing. The pages are incomplete.	Progressing The illustrations do not enhance the page or appearance of the story.	Proficient The illustrations mostly fill the page and are appropriate for the text.	Advanced The illustrations directly relate to the words on the page and are appropriate for the page in size and text.
Guidelines--Work Habits	Emerging The author has followed none of the guidelines.	Progressing The author has followed some of the guidelines.	Proficient The author has followed most of the guidelines.	Advanced Author followed guidelines: illustrated cover, author's info page, sufficient quantity of pages & sentences, words & pictures on each page.
