Research Article Summary Rubric

Choose a full-length, original research article in a peer reviewed journal on a topic related to science education. The article must be a research article with data. Reviews or professional opinion articles will not be accepted. Write a 1 page (minimum) summary of the article including a paragraph explaining how you might apply the research findings in a high school science classroom.

Application 20 % How can the research findings be applied in a high school science classroom?	Poor/Unacceptable Poorly organized. Unclear application or no detail.	Fair Suggested application is not well organized, OR suggestion is unclear or lacking detail.	Good Thoughtful, clearly written application of research findings. Supporting detail. Article Choice 15 % Original and recent research article from peer reviewed journal. Mechanics Requirements 15 % MLA format.Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins. First page header should include your name, the assignment name followed by: Title of your summary, brief introduction to the topic, body of summary, suggested application, and reference citation.	Poor/Unacceptable Research article is incorrectly cited or not cited OR Page length (minimum of 1 page) requirements are not met.	Fair Research article is cited correctly and minimum page length is met, BUT there are numerous grammatical errors or typos OR the suggested format is not followed.	Good Research article is cited correctly and minimum page length is met. There are only a couple of grammatical errors or typos and the suggested format is followed.
