Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.

Poem has engaging ideas. It is evident that the poet put thought into the design and was innovative in conveying the ideas and emotions of the poem. Several themes are expressed in complete and thoughtful ways.
Use of Language

Poor

Punctuation and spelling is poor. Sloppy mechanics interfere with the poem's readability. No apparent revision or planning.
Fair

Errors are noticeable. Spelling and punctuation are fair. Poem is readable, some mistakes distract the reader. Punctuation usage is acceptable for tone of poem.
Very Good

Few grammatical errors that do not distract the reader. Punctuation is congruent with the tone of the poem.
Excellent

No punctuation or spelling errors. Shows a strong grasp of poetic language through creative use of punctuation.

Poem strays significantly from the form and style chosen, or the combination form and subject is difficult to understand. Little understanding of form shown. May be incomplete.
Fair

Poem strays somewhat from chosen form and style. May be incomplete.

Poem is written correctly in the chosen form and style. Shows relationship between poetic subject and form. Completed.
Excellent

Poem is complete and follows its intended form and style. Choice of form reflects new understandings of the subject and adds to the reading experience.
