All objects are shaded and include highlights that reflect actual highlights of the object, and most of the objects reflect actual contours. Evidence of 6-7 values.
Advanced
Evidence of a full range of values is expressed in drawing. Varied range of darks, highlights, and midtones, and all of the objects reflect their actual shapes. Superior quality

Below Basic
Little care is given to application of line. Lines are sloppy or quickly sketched in.
Basic
Use of line is evident but does not enhance shading of objects.
Proficient
Use of line is drawn with sensitivity and enhances shading of most objects.
Advanced
Superior sensitivity and variation of line is used to describe all objects, surfaces, and shapes as well as enhance the shading.
Surface area
Below Basic
Objects in still life are floating, or appear flat. Lack of table or surface area.
Basic
Some objects appear to be falling off the page, or flat. But surface area is simply indicated by one line.
Proficient
All objects appear to correctly sit on the surface, with surface indicated by change of values.
Advanced
Objects appear to sit on surface correctly, with additional surfaces drawn for other objects.
