Character	Needs Work-1 The student was unable to recall any details about the main character in the story.	Developing- 2 The student named the main character but was unable to recall any details about the character.	On Grade Level- 3 The student successfully named the character in the story along with other details related to the character or characters.
Setting	Needs Work-1 The student was unable to give the correct information for when and where the story took place.	Developing- 2 The student was able to recall either the where or the when of the story.	On Grade Level- 3 The student was able to provide specific details about the where and when the story took place.
Plot	Needs Work-1 The student was unable to recall what happened in the story and what the problem or solution were.	Developing- 2 The student was able to recall the story's basic problem and solution without details.	On Grade Level- 3 The student recalled the story's problem and solution with details.
Conventions	Needs Work-1 Writing contains many (7 or more) errors in spelling, grammar and usage, capitalization and punctuation.	Developing- 2 Writing contains some (4-6) errors in spelling, grammar and usage, capitalization, and punctuation.	On Grade Level- 3 Writing contains few (3 or less) errors in spelling, grammar and usage, capitalization, and punctuation.
