The student will use main ideas and events from the story to summarize it. Use textual cues to construct and confirm meaning from oral, print, and/or other media texts. Determine main and supporting ideas using prior knowledge, predictions, connections, inferences, and context cues.

Story events (Summarizing) What, Who, When, Why, Where, How	Excellent - WOW! The student summarized the story using the most important events and included supporting details.	Proficient - Good! The student told some of the story but did not include many of the most important events.	Adequate - Just The student told some of the story but did not include any of the most important events.	Developing - Far to Go The student did not describe enough of the important events from the story to retell or summarize the story.
Sequence (Retelling) 1st, 2nd, Next, Then, Afterwards, Finally	Excellent - WOW! The student retold the story in sequential order using a variety of temporal words.	Proficient - Good! Some of the events are in the correct order. It was a little difficult to understand the story.	Adequate - Just Some of the events are in the correct order. It was very difficult to understand the story.	Developing - Far to Go The student did not put the events into a logical order. The story did not make sense.
