Research project and report
Students will research the history and current practice, policies and procedures of a topic of choice. Students will create a 5 page report (including cover page and reference) on their topic and then present their topic to the class with a poster, diorama or model of the topic.

Digitial Book Report
Students are to include: Title of their book, how it ties to their news paper article, or photos used in article, write a paragraph about each chapter if 10 or less paragraphs or 1 sentence/paragraph, if 11 or more chapters. Then summarize the book into a power-point with pictures and/or videos of the place or event you have chosen in your news article and book. Present your book to us (class) or share with me so I may share your teachings.

News Article ELA final project
Write a news article about an event in a historical place, or a historical event. Write a headline and a sub-headline, hook, lead, byline. Begin with a strong lead. Answer the questions who, what, when, why (or how), and where in your article. Use at least 2 sources/quotes and include necessary stats and actual historical facts. 200 words. All stories must have art (photos or graphics 1-3).

5-Paragraph Informative Essay - The Help
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of writing a 5-paragraph essay utilizing the writing process of creating a thesis statement, planning, organizing, writing, evaluating (referring back to statement in conclusion) and revising. Essay must have 5 paragraphs minimum, with a thesis statement regarding whether "separate but equal" actually worked in the 1950s or today.

Formal Art Critique
Critique a work of art, using the principles and elements of art, that is understandable and correct in terminology. Choose a creative work (from a famous historical artist). These elements need to be in separate headings. Length: at least 300 words, in a power point, google doc or emailed. Include a picture of the work of art, in colour, artist and date created and what style of art this is in (abstract, cubism, realism, pointillism, etc)

Steampunk Dragonflies
Students will study insects and the Victorian Era to create a Steampunk dragonfly 3D bas-relief painting/collage. Figurative Language Media Project
Your notes cover 10 types of figurative language. They are as follows: simile, metaphor, pun, idiom, oxymoron, onomatopoeia, alliteration, hyperbole, personification, and imagery. Your assignment is to create a media presentation with a partner using examples of figurative language found in pop culture. You may use Powerpoint, Keynote, or iMovie. You will need to create 8 representations of the examples in your presentation. Examples can come from song lyrics, books, or movies.

Novella Editing
Fiction Writing. Students must plan and write a novella (3000 plus words) utilizing the nanowrimo young writers program, starting with 10,000 words written in November. Students must use their proofreading and editing skills, as well as their knowledge of the plot pyramid (beginning, middle, climax, end) add in "sparkle words" (use thesaurus, edit for spelling and all conventions, add in figurative language and references as needed, as well as use a short non-fiction insertion.
