Grade 5 Social Studies Essay Grade 5 Social Studies Research Project This rubric was created as a guide for students and parents new to research projects. Facts and Sources	Level 4 Student displays a variety of correct facts. Student uses teacher provided resources (poster), student notebook and text.	Level 3 Student displays a variety of mostly correct facts. Good use of provided resources.	Level 2 Student displays facts, mostly correct. Some use of provided resources.	Level 1 Students displays a variety of correct facts. Student uses teacher provided resources as well as own resources.
Research and Understanding	Level 4 Student did significant research and it is entirely in their own words. Student uses text evidence to support their thinking.	Level 3 Student did a lot of research and it is presented in their own words. Student uses text evidence to support their thinking.	Level 2 Student did some research but most information is not in their words. Student shows little understanding of their essay and does not use text evidence.	Level 1 Student did inadequate research. Student does not understand their own project.
Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation	Level 4 Student has no errors in spelling or punctuation. Writing style adds to the understanding of the topic and/or material.
