Qualities and Criteria These are the components of the response that are evaluated.
	Excellent An excellent paper follow all guidelines clearly and shows significant thought and effort. If the student struggled with an area, assistance with improvement was found. Mechanics are near perfect. 10 pts	Good A good paper has the general structure and mechanics expressed in the guidelines with a few areas of weakness. A good paper could be made excellent with help from learning resources. 7 pts	Fair A paper of fair quality will show some effort but lack analysis or structure qualities as presented in the guidelines. 5 pts	Poor This category will reflect that the student did not put forth effort or understanding of the assignment. Paper does not follow guidelines. No assistance was sought for problems. Potentially failing paper. 2 pts
Format of Paper -Organization -Followed Guidelines	Excellent -Very clear and organized ideas. -Strong presentation of paper outline -All assignment guidelines are followed	Good -Outline is clear in presentation of ideas. -Most assignment guidelines are followed	Fair -Some outline attempted in organization of ideas. -Some assignment guidelines are not followed.	Poor - Does not follow an organized outline of ideas. -Guidelines for assignment are not followed.
Content of Summary of Film -Clear idea of what the film was about. -Supports analysis with explanations and detail.	Excellent -Gives reader a clear understanding of the film along with the main point appropriate amount of space, citing numerous examples of evidence from the film.	Good -Gives detailed explanation of the film's main point. -Has sufficient summary of evidence and sources presented.	Fair -Gives a general idea of the film but lacks in clarity of main point. -Lacks a summary of evidence and detail.	Poor -Does not give reader a clear understanding of the film. -Main point not addressed -Summary of evidence presented not addressed.
Analysis + terminology use -Critically reviews the film's presentation of facts, statistics, and information. -Shows critical thinking	Excellent -Provides evidence of critical thinking. -Avoids simple explanations	Good -Provides new perspective and relation to the issues addressed in the film.	Fair -Uses some analysis but limited critical thinking about the film's purpose.	Poor -Provides no critical thinking and only a summary of what occurred.
Personal Reflection -Addresses personal reaction to film. -Acknowledges any emotion or thought of a personal nature.	Excellent -Reflection flows well and integrates learning from the coursework as well as the film. -Expression of some personal reaction to the film.	Good -Good overall reaction is presented. -Reflection of what was personally learned from the film and the relation to the course.	Fair -Some reflection but lacks in ability to relate to what was learned through the film.	Poor -No personal reaction included. -Inappropriate use of reflection taking up majority of the paper.
Mechanics -Grammar -Spelling -Punctuation -Paragraphing	Excellent -Virtually free of grammar and spelling errors. -Limited punctuation errors. -Paragraphing is effective.	Good -Generally appropriate usage of grammar and punctuation. -Evidence of spell check used. -Paragraphing is logical.	Fair -Spelling errors. -Several grammatical errors. -Punctuation errors. -Paragraphing is illogical.	Poor -Many spelling errors. -Difficulty understanding ideas due to improper grammar. -Significant punctuation errors. -All one paragraph.
