While presenting monologue: Student uses body and gesture to illustrate moments and engage the audience

Excelling

Body is animated and expressive: Shapes/Gestures/Energy extend through the performer and illustrate important moments in the student's presentation, and throughout.
Achieving

Body is animated: Effort is put into using shapes/gestures/energy to illustrate some big moments, but not always consistent throughout presentation.
Developing

Body is mildly animated: Student attempts to use some interesting gestures/shapes and shows some energy through parts, but most of the performance is neutral body/tone.
Beginning

Body is a zombie: Student is able to present, but is still learning to add body movement onto text. Body/Voice integration is still being developed.
Voice

Student uses clear, articulate, and interesting vocal variety to engage the audience and draw them into the story.
They add/change volume, speed, accent, pauses, pitch for full engagement.

Excelling

Student presents in a loud and clear voice.
Student changes vocal quality and gists to illustrate important moments in text and captivated audience into story.
Achieving

Student presents in a loud and clear voice.
Student makes attempts to change vocal quality and gists to more fully engage audience.
Developing

Student presents in a voice that is sometimes clear.
Student may attempt a couple of times to vary vocal quality and gists.
Beginning

Student is not projecting to be heard.
Little to no effort is made to vary voice.
Use of Class Time

Rehearsal is the most important tool an actor has: Student recognizes this by using class time fully and effectively to shape a strong presentation.

Excelling

Speaker is well informed and elaborates beyond the displayed material.
Achieving

Used time well during the class period. Usually focused on getting the project done and never distracted others.
Developing

Speaker brings little knowledge to the presentation beyond what is displayed
Beginning

Did not use class time to focus on project OR distracted others. Reminders were given.
