In this unit we experienced Literature as an effective form of Social Commentary. How did the readings in this unit affect people and instigate awareness and change? Use examples from the readings to support your position. Readings: “Theme for English B” by Langston Hughes, “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, and “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” by MLK Jr.

Readers are not left with lingering questions about the topic.	Good The research paper does a good job in fulfilling its purpose of providing information on the chosen topic, but the topic could be developed more fully. There are gaps in the information that leave readers with questions, or there is some information presented that is irrelevant to the topic.	Acceptable The research paper does not fulfill its purpose of providing information about a topic. The information on the chosen topic is sparse, and the paper lacks significant details. The paper also contains irrelevant information.	Partial Understanding The purpose of the research paper is not clear. The writer did not do appropriate research. There is not enough information on the stated topic, or the information is not about the stated topic.
Content and Thesis Statement	Excellent --Writer clearly explains their position on the affect of the readings on people for chance and awareness. -Research support for topic is complete, & in-depth. --Clear, appropriate organization, text with effective introduction, and conclusion.	Good -The topic is stated clearly, but the support for topic is lacking in depth or complexity. -Organization, introduction, and conclusion slightly lacking clarity and/or appropriateness.
