Students are to complete a weekly current events report using the following rubric as part of their Weekly Current Events Project

Article/Source	Meets Standards The article is current and related to a topic or event outside of the USA. The article contains at least 4 paragraphs. The article (cut out or photocopied) was submitted with Current Events report.	Approaching Standards The article/source submitted is either not current, is from an invalid source, is not about a topic or event outside of the USA, or is too short in order to fulfill the requirements stated.	Below Standards The article/source is two or more of the incorrect listings noted in Level 3 criteria and/or was not submitted with Current Events report.	Does Not Meet Standards The article/source chosen has no relevance to this history class.
Summary	Meets Standards The summary is written in 2 paragraphs which<BR> contains at least 5-6 sentences each. The main<BR> idea of the article is clear and source is unplagiarized (quoted if necessary).	Approaching Standards The summary paragraphs are<BR> written in fewer than 2 paragraphs<BR> OR<BR> A summary of the main idea and important details is included, but lacking clarity.	Below Standards The summary paragraph is written in fewer than 2 paragraphs<BR> AND<BR> A summary of the main idea and important details is lacking clarity.	Does Not Meet Standards The summary is not written in 2 paragraphs but is simply listed or is not done at all.
Application	Meets Standards The application of the the article's topic is one paragraph (5-7 sentences), explains how the information relates to an applicable issue/topic.	Approaching Standards ONE requirement needed to meet standards was not met. Requirement not met:	Below Standards TWO OR MORE of the requirements needed to meet standards are not met. Requirements not met	Does Not Meet Standards Application is missing from report.
Response	Meets Standards Your response to the article is one paragraph (at least 7 sentences), and explains your reactions and opinions to the information in your article.	Approaching Standards ONE requirement needed to meet standards was not met.<BR> Requirement not met:	Below Standards Both of the requirements needed to meet standards are not met.<BR> <BR> Requirements not met:	Does Not Meet Standards Response/Application is missing from report.
