  Needs Improvement

I could have done better.
I am still demonstrating the same skill level as when I started this class.

(N/A)

Fair

I did alright. I have made some improvements, but they are not always consistent.

(N/A)

Good

I have shown a lot of improvement. I can see a distinct difference from the beginning of the season.

(N/A)

Excellent

I have shown immense improvement and consistently go beyond the expectations.

(N/A)

Preparedness

Did you come to class ready to work? Do you arrive on time, warmed up, ready to dance? Do you retain the exercises, lessons, and corrections given from the previous weeks? Are you dressed in the proper attire?

Needs Improvement

I am often late and/or disruptive in taking my place at the bar
I have missed this class often. I rarely recall any information from the week before. I do not put any effort into the exercises. I am rarely dressed for the start of class.
Fair

I sometimes show up late, but I join the class with little disruption. I rarely warm up before class starts. I learn the steps as they are shown each week, but usually do not remember them from the week before. My hair is up in a bun and my shoes are on by the start of the class some of the time.
Good

I am usually on time and warm at the start of class. I retain some, if not most, of the lessons and exercises from the previous week. I try to apply corrections from past classes. My hair is up in a bun and my shoes are on by the start of the class most of the time.
Excellent

I come to class ready to work on a consistent basis. I warm up before class starts. I always arrive on time, participate right away, and apply corrections and notes from past classes. My hair is up in a bun and my shoes are on by the start of the class almost all of the time.
Class Etiquette

Do you give a 100% effort each class? Do you focus and pay attention? How much positive energy did you bring into the studio? Are you polite and respectful to the teacher and other students?

Needs Improvement

I don't try very hard. I am rarely focused; instead, I talk and goof around the entire class. I don't work well with the other students and/or am rarely supportive of them. I can be stubborn or closed minded; I'm not willing to take notes or try new things.
Fair

I lose my focus often; I talk over the teacher a lot. I work hard only sometimes - usually only on the steps I am comfortable with and/or like. I work well with other dancers, but rarely show support for them. I do not always work with an open attitude; it's hard for me to take corrections or try something that feels new or different to me.
Good

I occasionally lose my focus, but I was able to regain it quickly. I put forth strong effort and worked very hard. I show support for my classmates. I try to be open to corrections and new ideas. I try to leave my frustrations at the door and be a positive energy in the studio.
Excellent

I give 100% effort and focus every class. I support and help my classmates. I focus and pay attention. I bring positive energy to each class, even when I'm frustrated or upset. I am willing to take corrections and try new things.
Alignment/Placement

Neutral Spine.
Proper use of feet and ankles.
Knees straight.
Legs turned out from the hips.
Hip rotation and placement.
Knees face directly over toes.
Shoulders pulled down.
Entire Torso engaged (back and core). Chest lifted w/out allowing ribs to stick out.
Neck relaxed & chin held up.

Needs Improvement

I have not shown any improvement. I am still demonstrating the same skill level.
Fair

I have shown improvement in 1-3 of the listed areas. These improvements are not always consistent in proper execution, and can usually only be seen at the barre.
Good

I have shown improvement in 4-7 of the listed areas. These improvements are usually consistent in proper execution at the barre. I can sometimes bring the improvements I show at the barre to the center.
Excellent

I have shown improvement in 8 or more of the listed areas. These improvements have become a part of my dancing on a consistent basis. I show these improvements at both the barre and in the center.
Vocabulary

Do you show an understanding of basic dance vocabulary?

Needs Improvement

I do not understand basic dance vocabulary. I cannot follow the teacher if she only gives terms; I need a visual to know what the word means. I do not know any of translations/definitions of the vocabulary.
Fair

I have a very basic understanding dance vocabulary. I know what to do physically when the words are said, but I know very few of the translations/definitions.
Good

I have a good understanding of dance vocabulary. I can execute several exercises/steps without visual demonstration. I know a least half of the translations/definitions of the vocabulary used in class. I would recognize the word if it was written.
Excellent

I have a strong understanding of dance vocabulary. I do not always need a visual aid and can execute many steps/exercises by just hearing the vocabulary. I know most of the translations/definitions of the vocabulary used in class. I have an understanding of how some these words are spelled.
Artistry

Do you have a good movement quality? Do you use the space as directed? Do you dance with energy and presence? Do you have a sense of musicality and focus?

Needs Improvement

I only perform the steps and combinations as given. I make no effort to add any performance or artistry.
Fair

I struggle with combining proper execution and artistry. I sometimes become so focused on my technique that I forget about the performance aspect of dance. If I start to add artistic elements, I lose a lot of my technique.
Good

I can add artistic elements when asked. I have an understanding of how to combine artistry with technique, even if I am not always able to execute it properly. I try to add various artistic elements to combinations throughout the entire class.
Excellent

I make a conscious effort to perform or "dance" each exercise the entire class. I use my entire body to express the movement, while still maintaining most of my technique. I use my artistry to help enhance my dance and technique with each step.
