Persuasive Techniques and Reasons
Level 4
- Three or more excellent reasons are stated with good support. All reasons are explained and have a good argument. Ethos, logos, and pathos are incorporated.
- Support is well chosen from credible sources. Sources are cited in MLA format.

- Two to three reasons are stated but the arguments are weak or lacking explanation in some places. Ethos, logos, and pathos are incorporated.
- Support is well chosen from credible sources.
Level 2
Two or less reasons or examples are are given but are not developed enough to support the opinion or are missing. Ethos, logos, or pathos are incorporated.
Level 1
There are no reasons or examples to support the opinion.
PSA
Level 4
- A powerful visual that includes strong persuasive language to convince an audience. Ethos, logos,and pathos are employed. The PSA ends with a real number or website to contact for more information.
Level 3
- A strong visual that includes persuasive language. Rhetorical devices are employed. The PSA ends with real contact information for a source for additional information.
Level 2
- A visual is created but the message is unclear.
- The same words are repeated throughout and very few words are persuasive.
Level 1
The Public Service Announcement did not convey the intended message.
Conventions
Level 4
Writes at least 4 complete paragraphs with with very few (0-3) or no mistakes in spelling, punctuation, grammar or capitalization.
Level 3
Writes at least 4 complete paragraphs with with some (4-7) mistakes in spelling, punctuation, grammar or capitalization.
Level 2
Writes some (2-3) complete paragraphs with repeated mistakes in spelling, punctuation, grammar, or capitalization.
Level 1
Many incomplete sentences with many mistakes in spelling, punctuation, or grammar making it difficult to read.
Minimum Requirements
Level 4
Persuasive Speech - 1 page with a proper heading in size 12 Times New Roman font. A title, cited sources and a bibliography.
Rhetorical devices included: claim, premise, support, ethos, logos, pathos, counterargument.
Public Service Announcement employs persuasive devices and a real contact number.
Level 3
Writer meets 75% of the minimum requirements.
Level 2
Writer meets 50% of the minimum requirements.
Level 1
Writer meets only 25% or less of the minimum requirements.
