After transferring your drawing using the grid, use two different mediums and color/shade your drawing. After studying the handout on the element of line, students were asked to draw a fall still life, using contour lines to create the shapes of the gourds, corn and pumpkins, then they were to paint the still life in watercolor paint to complete the drawing. The point of the contour line was to enable the student to create the illusion of three dimensions. The success of the painting hinged on furthering that look with careful use of overlapping line, drawing the mat the objects were placed on drawing a horizon line to keep the objects from floating, using creativity in the background to create an interesting painting. The time allowed for this project was a week and two days, thus enabling every student to have a chance at success.
