Content 4 pts Analysis and Interpretation	Excellent Makes complete and detailed responses to the poem. Thoroughly addresses each line of the poem. Reflects original thinking and substantial insight and understanding.	Meeting Makes detailed responses for the most part. Thoroughly addresses most of the lines of the poem. Some lines may need improvement.	Progressing Makes a response to all prompts but responses to the poem reflect a predominately literal sense of the poem, although attempts have been made to discuss deeper aspects of the poem.	Beginning Responses are not detailed or complete although some attempt has been made. Discussion stays on the surface of ideas or contains mostly literal discussion.
Grammar 1 pts	Excellent Responses contain few to no errors in standard grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Any non-standard usage is intentional and effective.	Meeting Responses contain a few errors in standard grammar, punctuation, and/or spelling, but errors do not distract from the work as a whole.	Progressing Responses contain several errors in standard grammar and punctuation and/or spelling, but the responses are understandable and not significantly compromised by errors.	Beginning Responses contain many errors. The amount and/or type of errors greatly distract the reader and make the ideas difficult to understand.
