Chinese Story Book Project

Each page must be illustrated in color, meaning there needs to be a printed or drawn picture that matches what you have written on each page. The book must have a cover with an illustration, title and author. You must write five questions in Chinese about your story.

Detail and Completeness
30 %

Needs improvement

There is little or no description, either using adjectives or using phrases. Story is a series of very plain sentences. Story uses little vocabulary.
Fair

The story has a few details that describe characters or events. Most sentences are short and plain. Story uses basic vocabulary and not much of it.
Very Good

The story contains many details that make the characters and events more interesting. There are some longer sentences. Story uses a lot of the vocabulary we've learned.
Ready for Publication

Just about every event and character in the story is described, many with two or more details. There are many longer sentences as well as some short ones. Story makes good use of learned vocabulary plus allowable "extra" words.
Accuracy of language
30 %

Needs improvement

Mistakes in structure of sentences inhibit understanding.
Fair

Many mistakes are present and they begin to distract from the story.
Very Good

Some mistakes occur but do not distract from the understanding of the story.
Ready for Publication

Near flawless use of grammar and mechanics, including ? phrases used for descriptions.
Transitions and Logic
20 %

Needs improvement

No logical connectors used in the story. Sentences are like individual sentences just placed in a row, without connection between them.
Fair

Author attempted to use logical connectors like ??, ??, ??, but there are relatively few, and/or they are used incorrectly.
Very Good

Many logical connectors used, though there are one or more errors in choice of a logical conector, or some may be missing in places where a Chinese speaker would add them.
Ready for Publication

There are logical connectors and words like "first", "second", etc. wherever appropriate, and these words and phrases are used correctly.
Characters
20 %

Needs improvement

Authors did not make good character choices. Many wrong characters occur and make it hard to understand the story. Characters are messy if handwritten.
Fair

Authors used some characters accurately. May have some wrong characters. Characters are somewhat messy and their sizes may vary.
Very Good

Only one or a few wrong characters. Wrong characters do not affect understanding and are a very small proportion of the word count. Characters are basically the same size, fill a square, and are written neatly.
Ready for Publication

There are no wrong characters anywhere in the book. Characters are neat, square, and legible.

Recording
100 %

Needs Improvement

Recording is very halting and not fluent. There are many mispronunciations and wrong tones or no tones. Part of the story or parts of sentences may be missing.
Fair

Recording includes the entire story without dropping any words. There are some uncomfortable pauses or the reading is halting. Some tones are wrong or some parts have no clear tones.
Very Good

The recording sounds smooth and all words are included. Speed may be a little slow. Some wrong tones but tones are generally correct.
Ready for Publication

Recording is confident, smooth and evenly paced. The author reads with expression. Tones are overwhelmingly correct with one or two errors, mostly in expressive parts.
