Art Inspired by Diverse Religious Faiths
Diverse religions are the inspiration for works of art in history. The Mayan and Aztecs created temples, Africans in Egypt created pyramids. Jews crated temples; Christians created murals and temples; Muslims constructed mosques with tiled domes; Hindus built temples with carvings depicting their gods and Buddhists sculpted gigantic statues of the Buddha. For this project you will do one of two things. You must research a work of art that was inspired by religious faith or you can create your own work of art inspired by your faith. You will present the artwork, either your own or the artist's to the class. If you present someone else's artwork, you also have to present your research on the work of art. If you present your own artwork, you will explain how your religion or faith inspired your artwork, and what medium you used to create it. Remember to use key words in your presentation: light, dark, color, medium, texture, religious concepts and symbols in art, in both explanations.
