Theme Collage Students will use themes from THE GIVER (utopia/dystopia, sameness, memories/history, coming of age, rules, family, friendship) to create a collage. The images that students choose to symbolize each theme should fold up, and an explanation of how each theme was developed in the story should be underneath. Required Elements	Excellent The poster includes all required elements (see task) as well as additional information.	Good All required elements are included on the poster.	Fair All but 1 of the required elements are included on the poster.
Attractiveness	Excellent The poster is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout, and neatness.	Good The poster is attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness.	Fair The poster is acceptably attractive though it may be a bit messy.
Explanation	Excellent Each theme has a thorough and well-worded explanation with examples from the book that offer support.	Good Most themes have a thorough and well-worded explanation with examples from the book that offer support.	Fair Some themes have explanations with little support from the book.
Grammar and Mechanics	Excellent There are no grammatical or mechanical mistakes on the poster.	Good There are few grammatical or mechanical mistakes on the poster.	Fair There are many grammatical or mechanical mistakes on the poster.
