Character Analysis/ Description
Exceeds Standard
The student shows knowledge of the character by accurately depicting them and their traits. They write the way the character would speak in the novel OR they write traits that can be verified by looking at their actions in the book.
Meets Standard
The student shows knowledge of the character however they name 1 or 2 traits that aren't accurate. OR The student writes in the voice of the character and says 1 or 2 things that aren't what the character would say/ do.
Below Standard
The student's characterization shows no knowledge of the character. OR The student's writing of the character absolutely does not capture the character's voice.
Convention
Exceeds Standard
Student's handwriting is neat and legible. There are no spelling, grammar, punctuation, and/or capitalization issues. The students' choices of films or shows are accurate reflections of what the character may watch, and the explanations of those choices are descriptive and relevant.
Meets Standard
Student handwriting is legible; however, it could be neater. There are minor spelling, grammar, punctuation, and/or capitalization issues. The students' choices of films or shows are somewhat accurate reflections of what the character may watch, or the explanations of those choices are moderately descriptive and fairly relevant.
Below Standard
Student handwriting is not legible or is sloppy. There are major spelling, grammar, punctuation, and/or capitalization issues. The students' students' choices of films or shows are not very accurate reflections of what the character may watch, and the explanations of those choices are incomplete, irrelevant, or just not descriptive enough.
Presentation/ Appearance
Exceeds Standard
The project clearly shows effort: it is clean, decorated, and neat. The student presented it in a clear manner.
Meets Standard
The project shows some effort but could use more work: it is not decorated as nice as it could be, a bit sloppy, and perhaps crinkled. The student presented but spoke softly or was unclear.
Below Standard
The project shows little to no effort: it is not decorated, is completely in pencil (and it wasn't an artistic choice), and is messy. The student did not present.
