Writing a Paragraph
	Unsatisfactory 1 pts	Partially Proficient 2 pts	Proficient 3 pts
Topic Sentence	Unsatisfactory The topic sentence is missing the title of the article, a verb, and/or the main idea that goes with the article.	Partially Proficient The topic sentence is missing either the title of the article, a verb, or the main idea that goes with the article.	Proficient The topic sentence has the title of the article, a verb, and main idea that goes with the article.
Supporting Details	Unsatisfactory Paragraph includes 0-1 supporting sentences to support the main idea.	Partially Proficient Paragraph includes 2-3 supporting details. Sentences support the main idea. There are some details that have been selected from the text.	Proficient Paragraph includes more than 3 supporting details. Sentences clearly support the main idea. The details have been selected directly from the text.
Conventions	Unsatisfactory Many capitalization, sentence structure, and punctuation errors.	Partially Proficient Only a few errors of capitalization, sentence structure, or punctuation.	Proficient No errors in capitalization, sentence structure, or punctuation.
Spelling	Unsatisfactory Many spelling errors.	Partially Proficient Few spelling errors.	Proficient Grade level appropriate words are spelled correctly, including sight words.
Ending Sentence	Unsatisfactory Paragraph is missing an ending sentence.	Partially Proficient Paragraph has an ending sentence but it doesn't fit with the topic or doesn't restate the topic sentence.	Proficient Paragraph has an ending sentence that goes well with the topic and the topic sentence by restating the topic sentence.
Transition Words	Unsatisfactory Summary doesn't include any transition words.	Partially Proficient Summary has a few transition words.	Proficient Summary has many transition words.
