Has attempted three supporting paragraphs. Has attempted topic sentences, but support may be vague or irrelevant.
Beginning

May be fewer than three supporting paragraphs. Paragraphs may lack details or support. Topic sentences may be unclear. May go off topic.
Conclusion

Exemplary

The closing was engaging and satisfying. The closing has done more than just restated the thesis statement and main points. May use a quote, or literary device to do so.
Accomplished

Closing may provide the summary of support points, restate the thesis in a new way, or sums up the main idea of the essay.
Developing

Closing is attempted, but overly general or wordy. Doesn't leave the reader sure of the ending. Does not restate or summarize the thesis statement.
