ESL Language Assessment: Sentence Writing 
Write sentences using all of the word list. The sentences may include declarative sentences, interrogative sentences, and direct speech. All sentences must have correct punctuation. Correct word usage.

Demonstrates a complete and accurate understanding of the word's definition and how to write it in a complex, detailed sentences. Demonstrates tense changes in a word, and writes it in a complex detailed sentences.

Complete sentences

Emerging

Student has a very limited or no understanding of sentences. May use words only or short fragments.
Proficient

Student has a partial understanding of sentences. May write some complete sentences using subjects and predicates, however, is not consistently doing so in writing.
Established

Student clearly demonstrates an understanding of writing completing sentences. Most or all sentences make sense and contain a subject and predicate.
Exceeds Standards

Student demonstrated well written complete sentences that are above the subject/predicate level. Sentences are more complex and still complete.
Spelling

Used the lessons vocabulary terms correctly. (words that are describing inferences)

Emerging

Not all sentences contain correct vocabulary There are spelling errors.
Proficient

There is at least one vocabulary lword in each sentence. There may be one or more spelling errors.
Established

All key words used in the vocabulary of the lesson are spelled correctly.
Exceeds Standards

All words used were spelled correctly and used correctly.
Conventions of Grammar

Punctuation correct.

Emerging

More than one sentence has punctuation errors.
Proficient

All but two sentences have correct end punctuation.
Established

All sentences have correct punctuation.
Exceeds Standards

All sentences have correct punctuation, and some words from the list tenses were changed correctly.
