	Needs Improvement 2 pts	Fair 5 pts	Very Good 8 pts	Excellent 10 pts
Characters	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify either Protagonist or Antagonist by name and cannot give any details about them.	Fair Student can only identify one of the characters (Protagonist or Antagonist) by name, and can give little or no details about either character.	Very Good Student can identify both characters (Protagonist and Antagonist) by name and can give some details about at least one of them.	Excellent Student can identify several characters by name (including Protagonist and Antagonist) and can give specific details about them.
Setting	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify where or when the story takes place.	Fair Student can identify where and when the story takes place, but cannot give any details about it.	Very Good Student can identify where and when the story takes place and can give at least one detail each of them.	Excellent Student can identify where and when the story takes place and can give two or more details about them.
Conflict	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify any problem in the story.	Fair Student can identify one minor problem in the story.	Very Good Student can identify more than 1 problem in the story, but is not clear about the major problem.	Excellent Student can clearly identify the major problem in the story, as well as several minor problems.
Rising / Falling Action	Needs Improvement Student can identify and list 2 or less of the elements that complicate the plot line.	Fair Student can identify and list 3 of the elements that complicate the plot line.	Very Good Student can identify and list 4 of the elements that complicate the plot line.	Excellent Student can identify and list 5 of the elements that complicate the plot line.
Climax	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the turning point of the story	Fair Student has listed the turning point of the story, but it is not clearly defined.	Very Good Student has a fairly clear understanding of the turning point in the story.	Excellent Student has very clearly defined the incident (event, discovery, decision, etc.) that mark the turning point in the story.
Resolution	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify how the story ends.	Fair Student does not have a clear idea of the outcome of the story.	Very Good Student has a clear idea for the end of the story.	Excellent Student has a very clear and detailed vision of the end of the story.
Presentation	Needs Improvement Student seems unfamiliar with the plot elements and characters of his group's story.	Fair Student has fair knowledge of the plot and characters.	Very Good Student has a fairly clear idea of the plot and characters in the story, and can answer many questions well.	Excellent Student has a very clear vision regarding the plot and characters in the story, and can answer most questions about them easily.
