Periodic Table Trends: Straw Lab 
Students will put together a poster to show the periodic trends i.e atomic radius, electronegativity and ionization energy. The poster will contain information that the students collected regarding the periodic table of the elements . Each team will give a visual representation of each trend in their posters.

Elements with symbols are arranged well with increasing atomic numbers and shows atomic masses.All periods are numbered.
All groups are numbered with respective names.
The periodic table shows the position of the transition metals..
Lanthanides and Actinides are shown with element symbols.
Straws are well glued to the flip chart and show/describe periodic trends clearly.
Team explains the trend/ pattern across the period and down the group.
Good

The poster is missing one or two features of the periodic table and trends.
Little explanation of trend across period and down the group is given on the poster.
Poster includes all relevant information; however, it does not utilize the resources and/or is not well-organized.
Fair

The poster is missing many features of the periodic table and trends.
No explanation of the trends is given on the poster.
Does not have all of the relevant information of the poster. Sources and information are not used in an effective manner, or there is not enough information presented. Information is presented but in an unorganized fashion

The poster includes all information relevant to the topic in an organized fashion and includes effective use of materials.
Use the periodic table to identify trends in atomic radius, electronegativity and ionization energy. The work done exceeds all expectations and shows that the learner is proud of his/her work.

The work was done with good effort that shows what the learner is capable of. It is evident that time was put into this poster and presentation.
Fair

Work is done with fair effort, but the quality is still not what the learner is capable of. It is evident that the work was rushed.
Poor

Work is done with little effort, quality is not what the learner is capable of. It is evident that the work was rushed and little time was spent on the final product. Work is incomplete.
Style/Mechanics

Exceeds

The poster has an element of creativity and style, and is not just a list of facts. The poster is presented in a clear and concise manner with full understanding of periodic trends.
Good

The poster is clear and logical and contains facts but with a few mistakes. Good clear presentation.
Fair

The poster lacks style and reads more like a list of facts than group presentation. The poster lacks neatness and clarity.
Poor

The poster lacks a clear understanding of the subject matter and their are many errors. Poster is not creative.
Presentation

Exceeds

The team works together with fluency, fairness and unity. Each member has good understanding of the topic and presented their information clearly.It is evident that the team has prepared their poster well and exceeds expectations.
Good

The team works together. The group presents good amount of the information expected.
Fair

There are several confusing moments among the group and the information presented is not completely relayed during the presentation. The group has not prepared their poster well.
Poor

The group is unprepared to work as a team. No preparation was done for the presentation and the information that is presented lacks many periodic elements of and what is expected.
