Discussion Director	Good I designed three questions that got the group thinking and engaged in conversation about important aspects of the book. They were higher-level thinking questions that revealed the nature of the character, theme, or plot.	Fair I designed 2-3 questions, but they didn't engage the group in higher-level thinking and/or the questions didn't address the most important aspects of character, theme, or plot	Needs Improvement I designed 2-3 questions, but they were far too easy and didn't generate in-depth conversation.
Summarizer	Good Wrote a thorough summary of the section. Included only major ideas and events. Summary is in correct sequence and contains accurate information. I observed and commented on important changes in character, plot, or tone.	Fair Wrote summary of the section. Included some minor details along with major ideas and events. Information might be accurate, but it could be out of order. I might have commented briefly on important changes in at least one of the following: character, plot, or tone	Needs Improvement Summary missing major ideas and events from section. Connector	Good Made at least 3 intelligent and well-reasoned connections to the text. Word Watcher	Good Found 5 new, unique, or interesting words to discuss. I provided page numbers and clear, easy to understand definitions for each word.	Fair Found 3-4 new unique, or interesting words. I provided page numbers and definition, connotation, and synonyms for each word.	Needs Improvement Found 2 or fewer new, unique or interesting words. Page numbers missing and/or unclear definitions.
Illustrator	Good Created relevant illustrations or visual to help create an understanding of the text. These visuals have labels and are visible for the entire classroom.	Fair Illustrations were interesting but lacked relevance. Illustrations were incorrectly or inappropriately labeled. Presentation/Group work	Good The presentation included everyone. The group facilitated a 10-15 minute discussion. The group created a quiz with 4-5 questions, and corrected as a class. The group presented vocabulary, connections, summaries, and illustrations.	Fair Some or all of the elements were presented but not in great depth or detail.	Needs Improvement The presentation was missing several elements. It was clear that group members did not do thorough work to present to the class.
