Song Writing Rubric
	Emerging 2 pts	Progressing 3 pts	Advancing 4 pts	Mastery 5 pts
Purpose: 5 pts Your song has a clear purpose to it, it fits with it's topic or title.	Emerging Purpose is unclear, song doesn't seem to have any focus or topic.	Progressing Song MIGHT fit it's title or topic if you really thought about it, however is still unclear.	Advancing Song has a clear purpose.	Mastery The song has a clear purpose and is exciting to listen to.
Tempo 5 pts The speed, the tune of the song.	Emerging The song is choppy with a unnatural mix of tempo.	Progressing Tempo and rhythm are sometimes unclear or slow down and speed up.	Advancing Tempo and rhythm are consistent.	Mastery The rhythm was perfectly performed. I could clap along to a steady beat.
Lyrics 10 pts A set of words, phrases or sounds that make up a song	Emerging Lyrics clash with the melody and have little meaning to the writer. There is one or no poetic devices.	Progressing Lyrics are starting to flow with the melody. There are 2 poetic devices.	Advancing Lyrics are meaningful and connect to the music. There are 3 poetic devices.	Mastery The lyrics are meaningful to the artists, flow with the melody and connect to the overall song. There are more than 3 poetic devices.
Verse/Chorus/Bridge Requirements 10 pts There must be ONE verse, a chorus and a bridge.	Emerging The song has less than 2 out 3 required components completed.	Progressing The song has 2 out of 3 of the required components fully completed, and one component partially completed.	Advancing The song has all three components.	Mastery The song has all three components. The song has gone above and beyond the minimum requirement of 1 verse.
