English Socratic Seminar
The purpose of a Shared Inquiry is to achieve a deeper understanding about the ideas and values in a text. In a shared inquiry discussion, participants question and examine issues and ideas related to a text, and articulate different points-of-view about these issues. Students are required to support every statement with sound reasoning and appropriate examples.

Exemplary
Listens to others respectfully. Enters the discussion in a polite manner. Shares "air time" equally with others. Avoids hostile exchanges.
Accomplished
Pays attention to others when they speak. But enters the discussion by interrupting others.
Developing
Rarely pays attention when others speak. Shows disregard or disrespect for others ideas. Occasionally holds side discussions with other classmates, disrupting the seminar.
Beginning
Any combination of the following: Dominates the discussion. Makes personal criticisms of the ideas of others. Show disrespect. Does not pay attention to others. Often interrupts when others speak. Continually holds side discussions with other classmates, disrupting the seminar.

The Shared Inquiry Log is completed fully and in detail. Questions are carefully considered. Short answer questions are answered in at least 2-3 sentences. It is turned in on time.
