Effective Leaders Social Studies Rubric

Research

Students demonstrate competence in using various different credible sources to obtain information on the topic.

Poor

Independently located a wide range of information about their leader, using three or more different sources.
Acceptable

Located some information independently or with a little guidance of the teacher. Has atleast two credible sources of information.
Excellent

Located a little information with considerable assistance. Only one source demonstrates credibility.
Information

Judges amount and quality of information given on the assignment.

Poor

Missing 2 or more pieces of information regarding charactistics of an effective leader and atleast 2 ways in the leader enacted change within his or her community. Very little information gained.
Acceptable

Mostly complete, missing no more than one required piece of information. More information given.
Excellent

Very well done. Complete information on qualities, defintions of qualities, and how this leader enacted positive change within his community.
Writing Skills

Judges a student's writing fluency and ability to communicate ideas in a clear and understandable manner.

Poor

Was able to connect like ideas together in his/her writing using own words. Each individual fact was placed in an appropriate place in the report so report flowed easily.
Acceptable

Was able to connect some ideas in his/her writing by copying and adding conjuctions. Some transitions and different parts of the paper could use a little rewording.
Excellent

Wasn't able to connect ideas clearly. Report did not have any sense of writing fluency.
Mechanics

Judges the mechanical skills of the student.

Poor

Full of capitalization and punctuation errors. Student has used incomplete sentences or only phrases. Not very original or varried sentences.
Acceptable

Only two or less punctuation and capitalization errors. One or a few sentences that are repetitive or unimaginative.
Excellent

Good use of capitalization and punctuation skills. Complete and interesting sentences.
Neatness of Written Work

Judges the readibility of the sentences or words on the page. (Typing words on computer and pasting onto poster or other presentation format is acceptable).

Poor

Sloppy handwriting. Hard to read or massive gaps between words, shows alot of erasing and is not a clean looking copy.
Acceptable

Fair handwriting, the student made some effort to write neatly, but there are still a few messy words or too many erase marks.
Excellent

Neatly done with little or no appearance of erasing. Words are nicely spaced and neat in appearance.
