Mineral Research Assignment
Students will first choose a mineral. They will be assigned a writing project that will consist of two parts. • Part 1: Research and personal piece o Students will research their mineral using mineralogical references in the form of both books and websites. Using this information they will become “experts” in their mineral. They will be expected to write up a report on their mineral, including aspects like physical properties (hardness, streak, luster, etc) and chemical properties (elemental formulae). This report will include one way their mineral can be used in everyday life (IE Talc is used in baby powder). • Part 2: Exchange of ideas o Students will take their report and share it with their peers. In groups of four they will present the “everyday life” aspect of their mineral with the other students. Using what they have learned from the other students, they will add to their report everyday life aspects of the other three minerals from their group,
