Genius Hour Project 
Twice a week, students will complete some research into a topic of their choosing for 3 weeks. At the end of the Genius Hour Project, the students will create a culminating activity based on what they discovered through their independent research.

Students completes at least six (6) paragraphs and student provided work where most analyses of researched texts were acceptable.
Level 4

Student completes eight (8) or more paragraphs and student provided work where all analyses of researched texts were acceptable.
Reflection

Students will provide a summary of their research per week.

Level 1

Student does not complete the reflection sheets or documents any progress throughout the project.
Level 2

Student complete 1 out of the 3 reflection sheets and documents progress throughout the project.
Level 3

Student complete 2 out of the 3 reflection sheets and documents, with some detail, the progress throughout the project.
Level 4

Student complete all 3 of the reflection sheets and documents, with great detail, the progress throughout the project.
Growth

Students' thoughtfulness and practices results in an improved performance. As demonstrated by the initial research stages and the final culminating activity.

Level 1

Student does not provide any evidence of independent work over the course of project. Student was inattentive to instructor feedback.
Level 2

Student provided very little evidence of independent work over the course of project. Student was somewhat attentive to instructor feedback.
Level 3

Student provided some evidence of independent work over the course of project. Student was attentive to instructor feedback.
Level 4

Student demonstrates growth in reading comprehension, writing, and analysis skills as compared to when the student initially researched texts. Student was attentive to instructor feedback.
Evaluate Credibility / Accuracy

Student can determine whether a resource is relevant and will further develop his/her chosen topic.

Level 1

Student does not provide any evidence of independent work over the course of project -- no material to measure. Student does not use any resources to support their research on the given topic.
Level 2

Student uses 3-4 resources to support their research on the given topic.
Level 3

Students provided at least 5-6 credible resources that are related to chosen topic.
Level 4

Students provided at least 7+ credible resources that are related to chosen topic.
Presentation of Information

Student talks to the class about his/her experience while completing the Genius Hour Project.

Level 1

Student does not present information.
Level 2

Achieves 1 out of 3 expectations:
- states chosen topic
- what enduring question was answered
- research acquired during project
Level 3

Achieves 2 out of 3 expectations:
- states chosen topic
- what enduring question was answered

Student creates something as a result of the research and uses the information to create something that is original and proactive for the chosen topic.
Attention to Audience

Student uses language and produces materials that are appropriate for the classroom and general public.

Level 1

Student does not use appropriate language and/or student work is absent.
Level 2

Student's language is difficult to understand and too vague to fully show an understanding of his/her topic during presentation.
Level 3

Student uses appropriate language for the topic he/she chose, but sometimes uses slang and/or text-speak during presentation.
Level 4

Student uses language and produces materials that are appropriate for the classroom and general public.
Technological Process

Student uses digital media to post research and findings, and the student is attentive to instructor(s) feedback on published work.

Level 1

Student does not post research and/or findings to digital media.
Level 2

Student struggles to post research and findings to digital media and is inattentive of instructor(s) feedback on research and findings.
Level 3

Student efficiently posts research and findings to digital media and demonstrates improved efficiency after reviewing instructor feedback.
Level 4

Student proficiently posts research and findings to digital media and uses creative tactics to showcase work on the digital media.
